Volunteer!
Flip has a growing list of those residents who mentioned an interest in helping out with the In-World portion of SLCC, and I’d like to encourage anyone else who hasn’t given their name to him to comment below this post to be added to that list this week. Whether that volunteer interest is as small as hosting the stream on your sim during the course of the convention (even perhaps while you’re in Chicago) or organizing a crew to coordinate with SLCC team members in Chicago, tell us your name and what role you’d like to play.
What your participation involves:
We’re looking to assemble an able-bodied team of residents who’d like to see this convention accessible to all, not just those who travel to Chicago. In order to accomplish that, the in-world convention will most likely involve a grid-wide participation with multiple locations, both official and unofficial “stops” in a tour across SL. This concept utlizes our biggest strength online - space. We are looking for residents in SL to represent a counterpart to those organizers and volunteers in Chicago, communicating with them directly as a joint endeavour. Additionally, there may be some events that SL can host that SLCC-Chicago cannot do as well (ah, the limitless opportunities in the metaverse!), and organizers would assist in creating these innovative events for residents in-world to enjoy.
Organizers and a Basic Timeline:
Anyone interested in volunteering to help lead this charge and manage or produce the in-world portion of the convention should expect to get their creative juices flowing by early April for initial organization and brainstorming. Much of the convention planning for organizers will be underway full-steam by June with weekly tasks, and they can expect the month of August to require a daily committment to see this event a success. Some areas to consider for team leaders would be:
- obtaining and managing in-world sponsorship
- volunteer team management
- track host - Education, Machinima, Business, or Social (entertainment, arts/culture, tech, and non-profit)
- live music host
- in-world Masquerade organizer
- volunteer coordinator
- promotion and advertising of SLCC in SL
- event host
- panel moderator
- party organizer
This is not an all inclusive, but it should give you a clearer picture of what we’re asking for with regards to leadership opportunities.
Volunteers:
Depending on what area you have dedicated time to help, your schedule will mostly involve the week before the convention and the convention weekend (August 18th-26th). Organizers may ask for your help in the planning phases, but August 18th-August 26th is the greatest area of need for making this portion of the convention a success.
Okay, the ball’s rolling, let us know what you’d like to do!

Excellent information Nethermind.
Just adding a few thoughts…
Clearly last year the 4 sim structure last year did not cut it and we are moving to the grid-wide event hosting structure much like the Linden Lab Winter Festival event. We will also have an official SLCC in-world convention tour HUD designed for us to be distributed during the convention week.
This really opens up the possibilities for community involvement. In a perfect world we would have a cluster of adjoining sims that could accomodate the continuing influx of new residents. Its just not possible at this time to have one and only one SLCC In-world location.
Hey, Nether!
Madame suggested I sign up as her personal flunkie.
Seriously though, I would like to help out at the con, during the con, as I fully plan on being there. Most likely areas where I would be best suited would likely be in the music-spinning or electronics monkey departments, with further clarification as we get closer to game time.
Thanks! Drop me an IM inworld or send me an email at the address here if you need more information.

I’d love to volunteer to work at the convention. I live in Chicago and I’m not sure that I could afford the convention fee. Would it be possible to volunteer and have the fee waived in exchange for my work? Please let me know.
Thanks!
I would be happy to volunteer for the convention. I’m a resident and native of Chicago. My company will be submitting a paper for the business track at SLCC this year. In addition we’d like to make Centrax Island available for stream hosting if need be. Regardless of our volunteer capacity we will be at the conference. Please let me know how I can be of help.

Count me in. I should have no problem offering a ‘relay station’ theatre for streaming audio/video as required.
