SLCC 2008 Location and Surveys
Folks our board has been very hard at work and we have narrowed down our locations to two - The Tampa Marriott Waterside, and the brand new Raleigh Convention Center. Both locations are fairly similar in price and the airfare and hotel rooms are within $20.00 of each other. We are confident we have two winners on our hands and already excited about the 2008 event. In regards to timing we are looking at a few sets of dates and are paying attention to your needs and trying balance it all. We also considered partial suggestions for the Austin Convention Center, Las Vegas, and relocating to Cincinnati.
Speaking of your needs, we are sending out a survey, actually going to post it here in the next week or two. More important to you is that if you attended in 2007 we really want your feed back! We said we would give 2007 SLCC participants a small token discount on the 2008 event … only if you complete a survey. Yes, to get your discount you must complete a survey with the e-mail you used to register in 2007 . This is a limited time offer and more details will come out with the survey. We care about what you think and want to make the event better for you!
Best regards,
Randal

I’ve never been to either, but I can’t say either spawns great enthusiasm. I’m sure they are great, but they both seem to be ‘pass-through’ cities to me and not destination cities. I’d suspect that having it at either would likely spawn some creative folks to hold an anti-slcc in someplace more amenable, but that’s just an intuition.
both cities are actually hotbeds of creativity and it development. Raleigh is in the heart of the the ‘Tech Triangle’ and Tampa is the anchor of the ‘I-4 Coridor’ both tech innovation hubs.
“Set to open in summer 2008, the new Raleigh Convention Center is currently under construction. The 500,000-square-foot facility will welcome groups of 50 to 5,000 with a sparkling new backdrop for trade shows, conventions and conferences.”
When in the summer are they supposed to open? And what if they dont quite make it???
Yep, I know both are ‘great hubs’ which is what I’ve said. I’d go to charleston SC before Raleigh.
I don’t see how being a tech hub really matters here. are they hubs of sl? before you looked at them.. were they on anyone’s agenda as places to visit?
Raleigh, only because it’s within driving distance to me.
And yeah Jeremy, I’d like to visit there. Even though it’s close, I’ve only been to NC a few times.
Tampa. Plus I think that chosing Raleigh would be cutting it fine, imagine the uproar if they didn’t opoen the hotel on time. Yikes!
And does this mean there are no plans for a European SLCC?
I doubt things being late in Raleigh will be an issue. No contractor on a job like that is going to be late as it will cost them everything based on the last set of contracts I saw for a place like that. Also there are a lot of hotels in the Raleigh area so it is not going to be a huge issue there. I would prefer Raleigh in the knowledge that weather aka Hurricanes should not be an issue.
Well I thought about this, between the two, Tampa seems like a poor choice for the time of year. It is right at the start of hurricane season. Not to mention the further south you go that time of year the hotter it gets. Raleigh would be a better choice in my opinion, there is alot in that area plus people want to go to SLCC and have fun, I think in Tampa we would all just melt.
Beautiful choices! Either way, I am there. Both are on the east coast which personally makes me smile. Thanks for getting these locations narrowed down so quickly! It really helps others plan ahead when things are organized in advance!
/me high fives ya!
I forgot to mention that as far as the date is concerned - early August would be great for the many of us who have school-aged children starting school in mid to late August. I know this may not be an issue for some, but if you could take this into consideration when planning the dates it would be nice.

I’m gonna have to say Tampa would be my pick, but only cause I live in Kissimmee, just a hop, skip, & a jump away.
Has any decision been made, as of yet?
