    Hey guys

I’m the land manager over on Pontiac’s Motorati island and this sounds like a great idea.

I wondered if you had given any thought to corporations attending or sponsoring in any fashion?

This could be something that Pontiac might be in to. If you have any information or want to try and get something worked out feel free to email me at razen@motoratilife.com

I appreciate the simplicity of using a blog as your CMS, but it makes it had to locate the basics. For example, what is the DATE of the event?

Perhaps you can add a static page linking to the pertinent blog entries.

Hi, My son Justin Gerard who is 13 would like to attend the conference in Chicago in August. We are considering a family trip to Chicago, because of his interest in SL. Will there be an appropriate and interesting venue for the teen participants. (He is TSL mentor, and very involved). Please advise.

    Thanks,
    Karen and Jim Gerard

I would just like to know when a schedule, exact cost for registation, and hotel reservation info is going to be posted. I am my RL/SL girlfriend really want to come, but doing so requires time to budget the funds and make the proper plans for plane tickets. The sooner this information is posted the sooner we can make the final plans to come to SLCC or not. Schedule doesn’t have to be firm but a good idea of plan which the comittee seems to have would be really apprecaited.

    Thank you,
    Greg

@Greg, the Dates have been set for some time now: August 24th-26th at the Chicago Hilton, and for budget purposes, I’ve been figuring on a bit less than $200 for registration ($180 iirc) and I think the rooms were said to be in the $160 / night range. Here’s the relevant info from the posting:

“We will release registration details and hotel rooming information in the weeks to come. We can share that the cost of registration will be in the range of $165 - $195 and will include breakfast snacks and lunch on both Saturday and Sunday as well as some awesome musical performances and conference materials. The event is being held at the Hilton Chicago and the hotel rates with our block is $159 per night before tax.”

    This was posted here: http://slcc2007.wordpress.com/2007/02/19/slcc-date-and-location-announcement/
Probably needs to be made sticky or updated to pop it up to the first page at this point.

  9. Comment by jennyfurperegrine on March 19, 2007 8:29 pm

Greg, we’ll be releasing the registration information shortly. We were waiting a little bit to see how we did on sponsorships so that perhaps we could get away with charging the lower amount versus the higher amount.

Otherwise all of the SLCC events are happening over the weekend of August 24-26.

  10. Comment by Laura on March 19, 2007 9:51 pm

I think one of the questions though is, if we do stay at the Hilton Chicago…1)What block are we registering under? 2) Will there be courses or seminars at particular times and if so, what is the time frame looking like?

Some are trying to figure time frames for flights back home, as some of us sadly have to work real life jobs on Monday morning…it would also be helpful to know when things will be occuring, seminar wise, so that one can schedule flights accordingly. I would hate to miss something I had an interest in, because I booked an early flight home only to find I could have booked out later…..if only I had known about the seminar.

I think these are things that more of us are looking for, at this point.

Thanks for all the other information, though.

you need a front page explaining what this is.

Thanks for the suggestion Mark. We are working on tweaking and redesigning the blog to make it more user friendly and easier to find things.

  13. Comment by Tenebrous Pau on March 30, 2007 11:30 am

Suggestion: Any UK’ers going to SLCC should compare notes and possibly travel together where possible to Chicago? Would make things less boring. :D

  14. Comment by Tenebrous Pau on March 30, 2007 11:30 am

… doesn’t just apply to UK’ers of course, but am just being selfish :D haha

  15. Comment by madamemaracas on March 30, 2007 6:13 pm

    @ Tenebrous (or anyone else)

Please be sure to check out the ever-growing “Conference and Travel Info” section for ideas. I’m gathering a wide variety of information on places to go and see, things to do and how to get there for folks looking to do something with their time outside the conference itself.

If there’s a specific type of information or category you don’t see represented yet, please drop me a note and I’ll work up an entry!

Hey. I have an interesting question, which I will ask out of respect for another presence in SL. I am part of a content creation company in SL, we are currently called AAM Mod. Recently, we have had the need to change our name, and are looking at Second Life Content Creations. In short… SLCC. I see that you are using SLCC, and am wondering if you would mind if we used it too :p

You can contact me via my e-mail, chris@warris.com

    Cheers!

Hi! My partner Spritely Pixel and I are excited about attending the convention this year, and our AKK Horse Ranch Island has a very good turnover in ‘real’ PG traffic. Is there a sign or something already made up, that we could display to let people know where to get informatation on the convention? We are always busy, but would be very happy to help spread the word in that way.

  18. Comment by MadamG Zagato on May 1, 2007 7:04 am

FYI, the government/mlitary rate for the Hilton is less than the SLCC rate for any of you military brats when you reserve on the Chicago Hilton website!

hey guys.. i was wondering if there should be a page for the Masquerade Ball..

while we know there will be one and that it will be “M” rated, there isn’t anything detailing if there’s a theme or not, what type of attire to wear, etc..

plus, such a page could include all the little details as well as providing a particular place for discourse about this event.

Howdy - my name isn’t showing up on the Who’s Coming list. I have registered over a week ago and still nothing. I did, however, receive a confirmation number via eMail.

Will there be more information to follow? And, how can get my name on that list?

Every conference should have a tag ;-)

Why is it that any kind of event or convention it is on the east coast? Will there ever be one on the west coast, i.e. California, Oregon, Washington? Would be nice since I can’t afford to go to Chicago to this year’s convention, but would love to go.

  23. Comment by Kaklick Martin on July 16, 2007 5:06 am

ummm, Tamby, the first one was NY, the second was in San Francisco, so it’s already been on both coasts, so one of these days it should rotate back around. Chicago is hardly east coast, in fact it’s the first in the middle of the US. Last year they did a survey after the last SLCC to get feedback on where to have it this time. I’m sure they’ll repeat that process.

  24. Comment by madamemaracas on July 16, 2007 3:26 pm

Yes, the convention will migrate around the USA (at the very least) to allow more folks to attend, as that is the real point here, to have some in-person interactions with folks we’ve met online! Actually, there’s been a good bit of talk about going “south” for next year’s gathering, maybe New Orleans, someplace in Texas, Florida or Georgia, but nothing’s set so far as I know.

    The more the merrier!!

Will the conference proceedings be published in some form? I’m going to have to miss Sunday afternoon and there are presentations in the Education track I’d like to know more about.

    Thanks.

  30. Comment by MadamG Zagato on August 26, 2007 10:56 pm

First, let me say that SLCC 2007 was awesome! I had a wonderful time and enjoyed meeting everyone. It was a defining experience.

Secondly, The slides for “Bringing SL Fashion to RL” are available at http://design.never30.net. Once the audio is made available for everyone to listen to at their convenience, you can follow along on the slides.

Finally, I proposed a Fashion Track for SLCC 2008 and I intend to follow through. I will post a link to the proposal once it is completed. Of course time is of the essence because of the time involved in having actual designs created. Any designers who are interested in having you designs made into RL clothing, please contact me. I will be happy to assist you anyway I can!

    Cheers and be safe!

The SLCC audio from the 4 conference sections will be posted somewhere, yes? I listened to some of it streaming in SL, but I missed a lot and would love to catch up.

  32. Comment by MadamG Zagato on August 29, 2007 1:55 pm

It was agreed that my proposal for the he Fashion Track 2008 should be posted here. I have completed it and it is now available:

    SLCC Fashion Track 2008

Please keep in mind that it is lacking various elements that will not be available until more details are available for SLCC 2008 such as sponsorship packages, location, and other information. This document was written so that the organizers of SLCC and the community as a whole could get a better understanding of what was being proposed and provide feedback and ask questions as necessary.

I will also post this on the official forums and hopefully spark discussion there.

    Cheers!

I think your idea is fantastic! I have experimented with several aspacts of fashion education in Second Life and I have found it to be an exceptional educational tool for Fashion Technology students.

    http://facstaff.buffalostate.edu/polvinem/SL/SLCC07.htm

Multiple aspects of fashion design, development, merchandising, advertising and promotion can benefit from developing custom project simulations in the virtual world. For example, the virtual world is an excellent environment for simulated development of a virtual business plan, theme, store layout and design, branding, product development and marketing. All the aspects involved in real world production of a fashion show can be simulated in the virtual world as well as fashion product design, development and presentation.

Perhaps Fashion Education should link up with a Fashion Track.

  34. Comment by MadamG Zagato on September 3, 2007 12:41 pm

    finn1,

    Yes! Yes! and Yes!

If you notice in my proposal, there is a mention of a panel to discuss creating fashion in SL for those who hopefully attend from the “Real World” and are looking to learn how to create their RL designs IN SL and others who are just curious or otherwise interested.

I appreciate you posting here! It really will require input from members of the community like you to help pull this together. Once this is all organized, I’d hope that you would respond to the call for papers! Your site definitely gives the impression that your subject matter fits in well with the Fashion Track Objectives.

You have the potential to cover several topics it appears which is definitely an asset to the community!

  35. Comment by Kalia Meiklejohn on September 3, 2007 5:56 pm

I love this idea, I think that this would be a great addition considering how large the fashion/style community is in SL. I llike the proposed panels and the runway show for SL models, you could possibly co-ordinate this with an in-world show as well…with the SL designs being based off the ones in the RL show. I don’t know how possible that would be, but it’s something to consider I guess.

    Good luck!

  36. Comment by finn1 on September 3, 2007 9:12 pm

I have a small group of independent study fashion students working with me this semester to continue work with their spring 2007 virtual projects I will present your concepts to them.
In spring 2008 I will have beginners again.
keep me posted on what you are developing and I will do what I can to advance your concept.

  37. Comment by Katier Reitveld on September 4, 2007 8:48 am

Having a Fashion track sounds interesting however I do worry about having 5 full tracks as it will dilute the numbers in each track and increase potential conflicts where the two panels are on at the same time someone wants to attend (which did happen in 2007).

However the Machinma track wasn’t a full track with several breaks in it when compared to the other tracks. Maybe condense the Machinma track into 1 day and dovetail it with a Fashion track on the other day.

The Machinma track was the main one ( only one?) teens where allowed to and Fashion is clearly something teens would be interested in too so would give them a wider range of panels to attend?

  38. Comment by MadamG Zagato on September 4, 2007 4:13 pm

    Katier,

Hello and thanks so much for posting! It has been proposed that the Fashion Track have its’ own half day. So I would push to be sure that no other panels were running during that time period. I think there is enough content related to fashion where we could easily fit all of it into a dedicated 4 to 6 hour time span (if not more).

I agree with you on the teens. This would be a great subject for them! It’s clean and educational :D !!! Once the ball gets rolling, I’d like to even see a couple of them involved if at all possible.

What’s important right now is that an interest is shown from the community so that the SLCC Board is comfortable opening up that slot for Fashion Track 2008. So encourage anyone you know who is also interested in participating, assisting, or just wants to see it happen to post here or on the main forums so we can justify the need for it!

  39. Comment by MadamG Zagato on December 18, 2007 8:48 pm

I have responded to the call for panel proposals on this note. I have submitted a proposal with less “WOW” and more substance to Mr. Fatale. Glad to hear things are moving along Randal! Here’s to lots of sunshine in Tampa!
