Volunteers
Would you like to volunteer to be part of the wonderful crew that
helps make SLCC happen this year in Tampa, Florida? Then we want
you!!! Please email mistyrhodes.slcc@gmail.com if you would like to
participate. Include your Second Life name so that you can be added to
the in world group.
All notices and scheduling will be done via email with reminders going
out in world via the SLCC Volunteers! group.
Thank you for your interest in volunteering and we look forward to
working with you to make SLCC08 a memorable experience for all!
We will update on the schedule links below.
Bag Party: Thursday afternoon we gather in someone’s room to stuff the 800 bags with all sorts of fliers and promo goodness form our great sponsors. We hope you can join us!
Registration: We are looking for a few brave souls to help pass out shirts and goody bags to registering participants. We are going to be bringing in a few outside volunteers to help lighten the load and minimize the number of you that have to get parked behind a desk all night.
Tracks: There are 4 or 5 Tracks - the teams of people assigned to each track must arrive at the appropriate Track door 15 minutes before start of each session and watch the room - once the seats are full or the panel starts they will then close the door and put up the “Session in Progress, No Admittance” sign. Each track “team” is comprised of 2 Volunteers and you will work directly with the Track leader.
Break Down of Who, What, When and Where
Thank you all so very much. We have gone to great lengths to make your volunteering enjoyable and also enable you to attend all of the conference offerings. SLCC 2008 will be such a rousing success this year because of the generous efforts of volunteers. It takes all of the us working together to make the Second Life Community Convention shine!!!
See you in Tampa!

Happy once again to help with organisation on the day.
Actually, as I have easy access Air Travel, I would loe to come for a week and be involved in the organisation in the lead up to the SLCC.
What area would you be interested in? general organization pre-event, on-site organization duties?
Any of the above. I live in the UK but am happy to do what I can remotely , and be available onsite the week of the event.
Ham
If this event is in philly or chicago, i would be happy to volunteer. As most of you are aware, the indie music scene here in SL is HUGE, so I would be thrilled to JAM at this one.
SO count me in for volunteer and for live music….i will be happy to FINALLY be at one of these events.
You all have a Great SL life and see you on the flip side.
TY Jennyfur for all your time in organizing this, and Flipper, you are an incredible Soul.
Much Love n Peace to you ALL!
Juel Resistance aka suzen juel
i’d be interested in helping out with the music as well…if Nether is coordinating the music again this year, i’d love to help out remotely if needed. signing up acts/scheduling/planning/whatnot…guitar tech/cord wrangler/equipment hauler…i’ll do whatever you need just to be a part of SLCC again.
let me know,
cylindrian/grace
Cylindrian - thanks for the heads up, I’m pretty sure that we are going to need someone with that sort of expertise on hand to help the musicians out. I’m expecting to have a larger draw from both live musicians and other music artists so we’re definately going to need the hands on experience.
Count me SO in with Cylindrian! this is the Passion that burns.
As far as expertise goes on the LIVE GIGS..cylindrian KNOWS THE SHI**
i’de be interested in being a live artistst to as well as FINALLY SEEEING YOU ALL GREAT TALENTS ON STAGE ( finally NO multiple streams..lets DO IT!~
Ahh. a role I can identify from SLCC 06. I can provide the musicians with copious amounts of alcohol. ( Cylindrian is Southern Comfort and Cranberry)
Im in for what ever you need me for. I dont live in any of the locations that are being considered but im always happy to help out
hey guys,
you know what’s coming.. yup..
i would like to design the nametags again, as well as helping out like i did this year.
(if i am granted this position again, i would like to know where it’s going to be as soon as you guys know, so i can get to work just a tad bit (hehe) earlier this year.)
Until after now,
Cybin
Cybin — we need to think up some ideas for the nametags this year. If the attendance doubles from last year. We need something easy and effective as far as name tags go. I liked the customizable ones and the original ones from the first year, but I don’ t think that they will be as easy to do if we have for instance 1000+ attendees.
true enough.. and something i’ll have to figure into the design as well.
i like the personalized effect too much to let it go. i’d rather figure out how to allow for avatar pics, while scaling it so that it’s not a complete nightmare.
honestly, if we could have a “submit nametag picture” with size specs and i could have them funneled to me.. i wouldn’t be above doing them each myself, like i did for the first SLCC.
i know it sounds crazy, but for me.. that’s been part of the charm.. everybody walking around looking at nametags, followed by “aahh.. you’re so-and-so”.
not sure.. maybe something different than the lanyards? ..hmm. i’ll think on it and let you know if i cme up with a miraculous answer.
Howy,
I’m happy to help with whatever on-site SLJs are required, including logistics, help desk, avatar EMS.. whatever. And… I run a mean coat check. ;-).
Or, any SLJs you need in advance in the form of clerking, virtual glass cleaning…anything requiring a warm body or av.
I am the grand master of SLJs. If you don’t know what they are, if it is a task you would rather never, ever do, it’s an SLJ.
The fun is in making it all work!
HAM! keep us BUSY i love love APRICOT BEER!
other than taht, what will i volunteer? ANYTHING, i’ll greet, i’ll make lots of goooood finger fooods (bags of chips are nice n easy Eh?) i’ll hug everyone(with a few exceptions) and um
Of course, JAM the Blues!
Chicaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaago, Chicaaaaaaaaaaaaaago la da da DA!
Happy New year soon
LOVE!
On behalf of the IVM team let us know how we can best be of help and we will do our best to be there for you. We’d also very much like to be a major sponsor this year so let us know who to talk to on that
I’d love to help out as much as I can with anything dealing with Live Music, either performances or panels. More likely for me to be able to make it if the event is in Chicago. My wife and I also both have a large amount of production experience (both of us have MFAs in tech theatre) so if I can get her roped in, there’s a couple old hands at this (though it’s been a while). May also depend on dates, but if it’s in the midwest I’m planning on trying to be there.
Kaklick:Nethermind Bliass will be the live music event coordinator. I will put you in touch with her (or you can contact her in world) regarding your interest in the live music events. Chicago is looking good though we don’t have a precise location yet.
I’d be more than interested in helping with a Chicago-based SLCC. I’m a life-long native with a much more than average understanding of the area and assets. I’ve got 6 years as a professional tour guide/trolley driver under my belt by way of reference.
Logistics, locations, venues, I suspect I can be a help there in a number of ways.
Please let me know, I’m quite excited to have the chance to show off my favorite city to all of SL!
Thanks Madame! I will catch up with you in world some time to discuss your ideas and areas of expertise. By all means, from your experience if you know of any locations (hotels with conference facilities) that we should be looking at to host the SLCC 2007 please let us know.
I have received research leave for the fall, so I ought to be able to help regardless of when SLCC is held. Of course my favorite place to help would be near the musicians, but I can help with just about anything. I am Cincinnati-based though, so I probably can’t come too many days early or stay too many days late…hotel cost is a bit of an issue.
Actually, I could do either entertainment or education. I want to learn more about education and make contacts, so that might be a good place for me as well.
Wonderful to see so many talented helping hands! I am going to be holding a call-out meeting shortly for volunteers for the live music and entertainment portion of this year’s SLCC, so if music and shaking yer tail is the thing that rocks your virtual world, look for it on the SLCC Announcement group and here on the blog soon!
COOL!
Is there room for a Brit musician to come Play? hehehe
I am definitely coming this year and WOOT!, Juel, Cyl and Kaklick..OMG we’re going to grooove out!
Can we bring tip jars?
*GRINS*
Slimmie
Ooo HELL YEAH SLIM you gotta be here, we got to EMBRACE ONE ANOTHER AND LOVE! ( froogle stuff eh?)
I’m full of passion to play. Grace has a show in NC feb. 10th and i’m going to perform LIVE for the first time in years in a state i’ve never been to! haaaaaa yes i’m a nervous wreck but my soul sistah and my sl friends will be there WOOOOT!
So i gotta get ready for CHICAAAAAGO, cuz i wanna play without hiding behind my guitar completely!
SLIM can’t wait to see you!!!!
You know I’m in. Where do you most need help?
What sort of stuff would you be interested in helping out with Ysobelle?
Hey guys,
Like I said the other night, I’m planning to fly out and be in the hotel a couple of days before the event to help you get things set-up or whatever you need. I have a lot of experience doing this as I used to plan and host events for up to 1000 people a week. Once we know the dates, I’ll tell you when I plan on arriving and we can work out the details!
Thank you for all your hard work Jenn & Flip!
@Alexa Lioncourt
Hi Alexa, I would plan to arrive a day or two beforehand as well. I’d be happy to assist with setup and logistics if you can use it. I’ve worked a number of trade events; this one would be a pleasure.
-Tom
(who, @Madame, has his Blue Man av all fired up! ;-> )
Hi,
I would like to help you up, but i guess that i had some shortcomings.
The first is where i am located: Spain - GMT+1. I had some experience hosting events, but I have not with this large audience.
Also, I would like to make it in October wherever the Convention will be at, and I think I will, but until I know when it will be, i can’t make a commitment yet.
Maybe, i could join the CheerUp team, just to animate to the hard working ones
Regards,
Vindi
Hi Vindi! I saw your interview that you did (I think for French TV) Nick Rhodes sent me the link awhile back.
We are always looking for new volunteers and helpers! It may be of some interest to you to know that there will also be a Euro SLCC this year as well. I believe that it is taking place in amsterdam. I have a link to it on the main page of the blog.
Hi, that was not myself. It may be that I had a very common name and face, isn’t?
I will follow the link …and yeah, Amsterdam is closer, although going to Chicago sounds pretty good. Once there, usually I am a helping hand, so count on me.
I am a local here, and I’d like to help with the overall planning, as well as the local Chicago volunteers to help with Chicago-related needs. I joined the SLCC Announcement List and spoke to Nethermind Bliss this evening. Let me know how I can be of service!
Must’ve been a different Vindi I saw in the interview.
I live in Northwest Indiana, and would be glad to help with anything from pre-planning to location scouting. Anything you need, just let me know! I have easy access to Chicago and would love to help out!
I’d love to volunteer on-site. Still working on the funds to go, but if I make it, I’d be interested in getting things set up, helping with registration, and such.
I will be attending SLCC and would like to throw my card in the voluneteering box.
I’ve worked regdesk for several cons back east and just love helping out so let me know if there is anything I can do!!
Verti
Count me in! While I don’t live in Chicago, I do visit it frequently. I’m also experienced in Conference planning (at both the regional and national level), and am experienced using SL for educational purposes at the college level. As an educator, my area of expertise is writing and rhetoric, and have experience in the publishing field–especially with things like press kits, advertising copy, and so forth. Further, I’m a DJ with RadioRadio, so I can offer help with things like the Ball, and plan on having a presence at the con for my in-world businesses. So, use me as you see fit–I can help out with pretty much anything you send my way.
Kam
I’d like to help, and also live in Chicago. RL: Jason Pettus; SL: Miller Copeland, Email: ilikejason [at] gmail.com. My main interest is in event production and making sure a full day’s schedule runs smoothly; I have prior experience already in doing such things. By the way, I’m also editor-in-chief of SL culture magazine “In The Grid;” those who’d like to check it out can find it at http://www.jasonpettus.com/inthegrid/ .
UPDATE - Names, availability (Local vs. non-Locals), and areas of interest has been noted on a master list folks! As we’re closing in on venue & dates, we’ll be needing all of your able & willing hands, minds and hearts so very soon!
Thanks for stepping up, together we’ll be sure that SLCC 2007 is a fantastic event!
Madame,
Just wanted to have you add me to the list, if I am not there already! I live in WI and am about three hours north of Chicago. I have prior experience with corporate event planning, some events with over 1000 people in attendance. I would love to help in any way I can, before and during the events. I would especially like to help with the Masquerade Ball that Stroker is planning,if they need volunteers. It sounds like a hoot!
I also attended last years conference in SF.
I am available to DJ and have a wide selection of music from EBM/Industrial to Rock/Metal and lots of Blues.. I don’t do country. I own the House of Tunes in SL and would very much like to be a part of the Masqurade Ball.
I’m planning on coming to SLCC. I”d like to volunteer for on site stuff.
I live just across the Illinois border in Wisconsin. I will be there and would be glad to help in anyway I can
I am more then happy to help out in anyway. I live in the Southern suburbs and it is only an hour away. So if you need help please let me know
Since we do music promotions in chicago and well i drive with a limo service we can arrange transportation and music for the event let me know..
@Mattchicago: The music is in the process of being put together by Nethermind Bliss, Nexeus Fatale and the members of the SL music community, if you want to get involved, head over to: http://groups.google.com/group/slccmusic/about?hl=en and join up with that google group, all the details are there, as well as the backlog of discussion. Artists need to have audition materials in by 3/1/07 to be considered (for the main events) and they should be currently performing in-world or at least should have at some time.
I’m interested in helping to organize the conference and am also interested in presenting in the Education track.
As a life-long Chicagoan, I’d love to help out wherever it’s necessary.
I can Helllppp
I am in the city..In Wicker Park and I am willing and ready to do anything except nudity!
xoxoxo
Rebecca/Haver
I live in Chicago and would love to help, too!
Hi, I’m a born and bred Chicagoan, and newbie SLer. My av name is Stain Paine. I work in academia and can help out with organizing the education track…or anything really since I’m on location already.
Also I’m a staff blogger for the Chicago-centric site gapersblock.com and will be posting about SLCC 2007 today.
Mm, I live in Louisville, KY but can make it up there this year, in theory. Be more than happy to help out in advance, even if I can’t get there, and then I’m willing to carry around Grace’s, Frogg’s, Jay’s and Juel’ stuff once I’m there *laugh*
I’d love to help out with anything you want. I have no special skills, but I can run a mean errand, and I can also help with the registration table. Make my your gopher and I’ll go where you need.
My avie name is Walker Koenkamp and I live to serve.
I can hand things out at registration, pass thing out to people, assemble packages of stuff, just do sort of what ever. I was there last year so I know some of the people if some of the same are here again.
Let me know, I’d love to help.
Hello My name is Jake Kukuk also know as Vicero Lambert in Second Life. My skills are Event Management, Network Management (Wireless 802.11x & wired “Win2003 Environments”). I have experience thru the Experimental Aircraft Association in Arlington, Washington at the NWEAA Sports Aviation Convention doing Forums Management, Power Grid Management, and Movie theater automation/management. I can get you references if needed. You can contact me in world for more skills I don’t want to take up to much room. I’m pending on if I’m going to go too depending on costs at the time of registration. I look forward to hearing from you. Thanks.
I live in the Chicago area and would be interested in helping out, both prior to the con and during the event itself. For the sake of available skill sets, I’m a writer, editor, artist, and graphic designer. The masquerade ball sounds like fun. I’ve also worked check-in’s before and am good for general organizing and grunt work.
Jennyfur, based on the listing and organizational talent, I think I can best help with something like registration, and other pre-event duties. Put me down to be available from Wednesday evening.
Hi, I’m interested helping in anyway possible! I have skills in Security, Logistics, Computer Adminstration, or anything else that you can think of or need help with! Just drop me a line and I’ll see what I can do to help in-world or at Chicago!
I want to help. Thanks for the oportunity.
I live in the Chicagoland area. I would love to help, however you need it. Just let me know!
I’d be very happy to help out. I’m a native Chicagoan and an Instructional Designer/Performance Improvement specialist. If possible, it would be great to place me with the Education track, since that is my main interest. I’ve also planned large scale events for international companies in the past. Thanks!
I’d be happy to help out. I’ll be coming in Wed night from SDiego.
I’m in town. Dunno where the initial volunteer list went, just re-adding my name.
I can run errands, help as greeter, errands, have laptop, car, etc.
This will be my first convention and I figure that since I’m a Chicago Native, I should do something to help. …well, Chicago ‘burbs, but same difference. I’m a UNIX/Web Systems Administrator by trade… not sure how much help that will be in the Real World, but I’m happy to assist where I can.
I’m in!
I’m a born-n-bred Chicago native too! If I had to choose, I’d love to help with the Educational track. I’m a Designer by trade, devoted to the Mac. I can help with Photoshop and InDesign, as I’ve done my share of corporate logos in my time! I’m also willing to be a greeter, run errands, etc.
Just drop me a line in-world!
Cheers!

Folks we’re getting toward the time when we can determine exactly where we need help doing what for how many hours, etc. Please, don’t think for one moment that we’re ignoring these generous offers of assistance!

Folks, we’re at that point where we can see who needs how many helping hands where and when during the convention, so happy to have so many folks willing to help make SLCC 2007 the rockin’est yet!!
Hi … I’m also in Chicago and would be interested in helping out. I’m a former CMP (Certified Meeting Professional), so have a certain level of expertise. I’m hoping, however, to be able to give my full attention to presentations at the actual convention, but would be willing to lend a hand in the weeks leading up to it!
Hey folks, I will (hopefully) be doing a part of a presentation on one day, but other than that am free to help in the music dept in any way i can - and would sit in drumming for anyone who needed me
Still need anyone? or has all this been sorted out by now? Driving from toronto and I should arrive Friday afternoon if i leave early enough on Friday morning (um— 4am?)
Cheers!
I’m free to help Friday and Saturday with whatever as I’ve said before. If you need help at the regristration desk, etc. I’ll be arriving Thursday night.

I’ll be there Thursday afternoon ready to help !
Can’t wait to help!!!!
I’d love the opportunity to volunteer! I am a local yokal so I’d be happy to help out on any day. And, if somebody needs a place to stay, I do have an extra room (Clearwater, FL), friends in the area with homes that are within 40 minutes of Tampa or the best case scenario, buddy up and sharing a suite = Think Green - lol!
